Hello everybody, I am new on this forum ...

I'm actually building carving alpin boards, and i would like also tu build a skwal for me, and one for my girlfriend ...

I think i know a lot of things about alpin boards, but not a lot about skwal.
I would need to get the metric of a skwal board compared to a alpin board.

For the same weigth / size / technical level of the rider, which should be the ratio for

Size
Running length
Radius
Width

compared to a carving board....

For example, my alpin board specifications are :
for me (i am 1,70m, 72kg)

Alpin board :
Length : 168
Width : 21,5
radius : 12,5
wood core thikness : 9 mm

For ma girl friend (1,65m 55kg) :
Alpin board :
Length : 154
Width : 20,5
radius : 8,5
wood core thikness : 7 mm

I would have been please to be able to use the same templates, but i think that comparing to the size, raduis will be too large ....

Thanks for all you infos !!!

I think it's a good idea to keep the same radius that your alpine boards (perhaps 10 meters for your girlfriend).

But when you are talking about width where is it taken? width must be much smaller for a skwal than for an alpine board.
If you intend only to use it on slopes and not off pists, make the width as small as possible for the skiboots to fit on it.

The best for me would be take the same metrics than the ones of the most popular boards (Thias 173°F, Mpride 173, 183, Lacroix X1)

For your board I would say a lenght of 1m70-1m75 would be a correct size and for you girlfriend 1m65-1m70 with more flex would be ok

I don't know what the wood core thickness should be, I would need to press on the board to check if its ok or not :)

Thanks for your reply,

This is what i was thinking, i cannot use my alpin boards templates to build a skwal and have to build others

I think 1,70 / 13m - 1,60 / 10 m should be ok ...

It is more interesting (and enjoying) to have them a bit longer I would say 1,75 / 13m - 1,68 / 10 m

HI,
i'll shortly give my experience: I'm not so sure of the importance of radius and lenght. keep it easy..I have been snowboarding for 10 or more years, passing from large tables to thin boards (last one a Virus 15.1cm large), if i can suggest a thing is that going gradually from 20 cm width to 10 cm is better than do that in one time. i mean..it is the same sport but there is to develop the tecnique a bit..
Than, to try a skwall will be easier & funner and .. don't mind you could feel the difference between 15 and 12 cm as from 20 to 12cm but in a more omogenous way, following the historical develop of skwal "art"...
am i wrong??
;)
